ORONO “B”/ STILLWATER “B” HYDRO PROJECTS

BROOKFIELD RENEWABLE

Orono, ME

In 2011, Black Bear Hydro Partners LLC constructed two new powerhouses at the Orono and Stillwater dams, located along the Penobscot River in the State of Maine. The new plants which were commissioned in 2012 are now owned and operated by Brookfield Renewable, one of the largest hydro developers in the United States, and a long time customer of CHC.

CHC provided a total of six 1700 mm axial flow turbines, a set of three for each plant, each plant receiving two single-regulated and one double-regulated turbine. The equipment package also included six new vertical synchronous generators. The installed capacity of the Orono “B” plant is 3.7 MW and the Stillwater “B” plan produces an additional 2.2 MW.
