WELLAND CANAL – WEIR 1, 2 AND 3

In 2008, the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation together with Rankin Renewable Power Inc. developed three green energy hydro power projects on the Welland Canal. The new power plants are located at the weirs adjacent to Locks 1, 2 and 3 in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. CHC provided a water-to-wire equipment package for each new plant, including a 1700 mm vertical axial flow Kaplan turbine capable of 2.0 MW of power, vertical synchronous generator, hydraulic power unit, switchgear, controls and protection package.
